Be Sure to Read the Next One Too
Somewhere out there in blog land there is a heretic who says that christians are intellectually irresponsible. I only call him a heretic because that is what he calls himself. Since I've been blogging, I myself have been called by some a heretic. It bothered me at first, not any more. But it does bother me that this person thinks that christians as a rule are intellectually irresponsible. I can see where he gets this idea...can't you. I think we need to be more careful. I think we need to be more aware of who is watching us. In a way, we are using the name of our LORD in vain when as followers of Christ we present ourselves as hypocrites who can't ever get along.

MaryEllen,
I got this from a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. I think it suits my ideas well. Nice blog. :)
In the sight of God,
Perhaps all men are Heretics. Who dares
To say that he alone has found the truth?
Most excellent and worthy to quote!
thanks...
My whole blogging experience began when I read a blog entry written by a friend of mine, someone whom I worship and fellowship with, who explained a belief that I thought sounded right, and said it was heretical. I started reading and commenting on some rather fundementalist blog sites, trying to figure out what was so wrong with some of the stuff they were blasting. I got called a new age mystic, my salvation was questioned because I didn't stick to the KJV only. It got to me at first...then I just ignored it. The condemnation was not coming from Jesus, because in Him there is no condemnation. Bloging has been good for me because i have had a chance to think through my faith, and my convictions, I've been able to express my deepest feelings, in the darkest nights, and I have found some new friends as well. Like I said, I like the quote that Monk in training posted.
I do believe in absolute truth, and I do believe in Jesus, God as He revealed himself in the Bible.
But when anyone takes a verse and tries to tell me what it really means...it says what it says...that's my pet answer.
Any verse in Scripture means exactly what it says. The Bible is not rocket science. However we are not add or detract from it simply based on our feelings.
As for Monk-in-training, a visit to his blog reveals much.
Chris, love ya brother...
shall I ask you once more about Genesis 6:6 and Acts 17:27
and then there is Matthew 18:19...
no, honestly, never mind.
And I can still appreciate Longfellow's words even if I don't agree with everything on Monk-in-training's blog.
Fair enough Maryellen,
I will post a reply on my blog sometime today, as this is a valid question and an interesting study.
Alsdo I am fine with Longfellow, I just found the monk's thoughts to be "interesting".
Thank you Chris, I certianly hope you drop by my blog often.

Chris's response on his blog is long, well thought out, and I'd like some of my blog friends to read it and comment...
Monk
